Procession for End Times III: Information

Procession for End Times III: Information was the third iteration of the annual public procession hosted by TRAction. Each year the procession acts as a way to contemplate and mourn something that we have lost in the past year.

In 2021, we marked the death of "information". Due to the impacts of COVID-19 and the increasing use of technology, individuals have been turning more and more to social media sources for news. This has led to an eroding of evidence-based analysis as giant corporate structures ignore or even actively promote the sharing of misinformation, including in relation to climate change. Via the annual Procession for End Times, TRAction in collaboration with volunteer mourners offered a funeral march for climate change information, which is being eroded in detriment to our global future.

The procession featured a barrel of soil. As the mourners walked, they shed this soil, showing the erosion of information, of ideas, and of our collective future. The procession finished with the presentation of TRAction’s latest short film, Erosion. This film includes a scientific description of the impacts of global heating which, via a game of telephone, erodes at lightning speed with predictably dire consequences.
