Updated: May 6, 2022

WHAT CAN ARTISTS POSSIBLY DO AS THE WORLD

CRUMBLES AROUND US?

Climate Art Web connects and highlights artists across the country who are making work about climate change

Join us on May 23, 2022 (10am - 1:30pm PDT/ 1:00p - 4:30 pm EDT) for the first Online Gathering of the Climate Art Web/Web d’Art Climatique to learn about the climate art community of Northern Turtle Island/Canada. At this gathering, which will take place on World Turtle Day, you will have the chance to meet other climate artists, see what climate art projects are happening across the country, and witness the launch of the Climate Art Map. The CAW-WAC online gathering will feature presentations by such notable artists as Monique Mojica, Joyce Majiski, Jacky Qrunnut (ArtCirq), Hitoko Okada, Yolanda Weeks, Beau Wagner, Audrey Lane Cockett and Sable Sweetgrass , while also offering the chance to connect to and dialogue with artists responding to the climate and ecological emergencies we are facing.

As part of the gathering, CAW-WAC will be launching the newly designed Climate Art Map, an online mapping resource of artists, projects and organizations that create climate art in northern Turtle Island. This online map is being crafted alongside and in conversation with Indigenous knowledge keepers and ecological mapping practices.

The Climate Art Web/Web d’Art Climatique (CAW/WAC) is a network that brings together artists living in northern Turtle Island (Canada) who are invested in creating projects that relate to climate change, environmental justice, sustainability, Indigenous knowledge and place-based care and relationship. CAW-WAC is a project initiated and produced by TRAction, an interdisciplinary collective that lives at the intersection of arts and climate justice and is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and Calgary Arts Development.
